Prior to his retirement after 15 years, Richard Shields was Manager of Conveyor Technologies for Martin Engineering. He led seminars teaching plant personnel techniques to prevent fugitive material, improve the efficiency of their material handling systems while addressing safety and environmental concerns. His extensive knowledge has been built over 45 years of serving coal mining, coal-fired power plants, cement manufacturing, port facilities, hard rock mining, and aggregate producers.

Career at Martin Engineering

Richard joined Martin Engineering’s sales department in 2006 as a Territory Manager for Colorado, Utah, Idaho, North and South Dakota. He was then promoted to Regional Sales Manager for the Western US and Canada where he led Martin’s marketing, new product development, sales, and service efforts. Finally he was promoted again to Martin’s Manager of Conveyor Technologies. In this current role Richard’s primary responsibilities were to develop new sales and service personnel, manage conveyor audits, teach Foundations™ workshops, and diagnose critical conveyor performance problems in the USA and Canada.

Prior to Martin Engineering

Founder and Vice President of Rocky Mountain Conveyor; responsible for sales, design, fabrication, installation, and maintenance of material handling systems in North America.

Founder and CEO of Mountain States Conveyor; responsible for design and consulting of material handling systems to mining, power generation, port facilities, cement, and EPC firms in North America.

Principal in Data Solutions where he directed the development of an Electronic Documentation Management System (EDMS) software application currently utilized by SAP, IBM, and Oracle’s Maintenance Management Software.

Richard resides with his wife, Lori, in Littleton, CO. They have three children and two grandchildren.
